Everything you need to know about Vegas Edge Fantasy Rankings and how it works.
What is Vegas Edge?
Vegas Edge Fantasy Rankings is a fantasy football projection tool powered by real sportsbook odds. Instead of relying on traditional consensus projections, we convert player prop lines and betting markets from major sportsbooks into fantasy point projections — giving you the most current and accurate projections based on the same algorithms Vegas uses to set their lines.
Other fantasy sites rely on analyst opinions. We use sportsbook odds — built by algorithms that process every relevant variable to produce the most accurate predictive model in sports — and convert them directly into fantasy projections based on your league's scoring settings.
Yes — Pre-Draft is completely free, no account required. It includes season-long sportsbook-implied rankings, a player comparison tool, and a printable cheat sheet.
In-Season is a paid subscription (or one-time season pass) that includes weekly rankings, player odds breakdowns, Start/Sit, Lineup Optimizer, Matchup Comparison, and more.
How It Works
Projections are built using an Expected Value formula applied to player prop odds from major sportsbooks. For each stat, we factor in the posted line, the market's implied probability for each side after removing the house's margin, and the typical statistical variance for that stat type in an NFL game. The result is a true expected value for each stat category, which we then convert into fantasy points using your league's scoring settings.
Within the season, we pull odds from DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, Bovada, BetOnline.ag, and BetRivers.
For Pre-Draft, odds are sourced from all sportsbooks that currently have season-long prop lines available, which grows as the season approaches.
When Average (All Books) is selected, we calculate a projection independently for each sportsbook that has odds posted, then average those projections together. This gives you the most balanced and comprehensive projection rather than relying on any single book.
In-Season: Odds are updated multiple times daily during the NFL season and every 30 minutes to an hour Thursday through Sunday as games approach. Early in the week odds may be limited. Check back closer to kickoff for the most complete projections.
Pre-Draft: Odds are currently updated every Monday leading up to draft day. As the season gets closer and more sportsbooks post lines, we plan to increase the update frequency so rankings stay as sharp as possible during draft season.
The warning icon means a player is missing one or more relevant prop markets from the selected sportsbook. When Average (All Books) is selected, the icon only appears if the player is missing a prop across all books. For individual books, it appears if that specific book hasn't posted the prop yet. Check back closer to kickoff as books typically post more props as the game approaches.
The Tools
The Lineup Optimizer lets you load your saved fantasy team and automatically generates the highest-scoring possible starting lineup based on current sportsbook projections. You can swap bench players in and out, then optionally move to the Matchup Comparison to see how your optimized lineup stacks up against your opponent.
The Matchup Comparison is Step 2 of the Lineup Optimizer. After optimizing your lineup, click "Compare Against Your Opponent" to build out your opponent's roster and get a head-to-head projected score and win probability for your fantasy matchup.
The Start/Sit tool lets you compare any players head-to-head with full projected stat breakdowns and prop lines from every major sportsbook. Add players from your saved teams, watched players list, or search any player manually.
Fantasy Stock is a per-player chart available in the player detail modal that shows how a player's sportsbook-implied value has trended over time. It works differently depending on which tool you're using.
In-Season: Updated weekly throughout the NFL season, it tracks how a player's implied projection shifts week to week. As the season progresses you can also toggle on actual points scored to compare projections against real performance.
Pre-Draft: Updated every Monday leading up to draft day, it tracks how a player's season-long sportsbook-implied value rises and falls over time. This reflects new odds becoming available as the market reacts to ADP movement, player hype trains, training camp news, injuries, and any other factors that shift a player's outlook before the season begins.
VORS stands for Value Over Replacement Starter. It measures how much more a player is projected to score per week compared to the baseline replacement player at their position. A higher VORS means the player provides more value relative to what you could freely pick up.
We support PPR, Half-PPR, Standard, and fully Custom scoring. Custom mode lets you set your own values for every scoring category. Fantasy points are calculated by multiplying the expected value derived directly from sportsbook odds by your league's scoring settings — so every projection reflects your exact format.
The Data
For In-Season, sportsbooks typically post props 24-72 hours before kickoff. When injuries are a factor, oddsmakers will often wait until the injury picture is clearer before posting lines — so it's not uncommon for a player's odds to be missing or incomplete until their status is confirmed. Check back closer to kickoff for the most complete projections.
For Pre-Draft, when a player is missing odds for specific stats, we supplement those individual stats with adjusted consensus projections — any stats that do have odds are still driven entirely by sportsbook data. A warning indicator appears on the player when one or more props are unavailable.
Sportsbook lines move constantly as new information becomes available — injury reports, weather, depth chart changes, and betting volume all influence the lines. We recommend checking back just prior to kickoff for the most accurate projections.
Each sportsbook sets their own lines independently based on their own models and the money coming in on each side. Our Average (All Books) mode smooths these differences out for the most balanced projection.
Yes! Sportsbooks are very fast to adjust lines when injury news breaks. If a player is questionable or limited, their prop lines will reflect that almost immediately, which flows directly into our projections.
